As a Christian Brothers School, we are fortunate to have the
guidance of our spiritual leader, Saint John Baptist de La Salle, when faced
with the prospect of creating a better school for our students.
Saint La Salle
founded the Brothers of the Christian Schools to better serve the educational
needs of his community. He placed a particular emphasis on serving the poor;
and that notion of service to others less fortunate continues at every
Lasallian School some three hundred years later.
In the modern world, we believe this same
faith-based, Lasallian education best accomplishes our goals. De La Salle High
School implements this mission by teaching what we call ESLRs, or Expected
School-wide Learning Results. It is a simple, yet powerful and effective method
of creating an academic, spiritual and moral atmosphere within our school.
Much is said of our athletic successes, but those too have
their roots in the ESLRs. Our student-athletes are well aware that they are
personally responsible to their teammates for their preparation and
performance. They are expected to help their fellow Spartans achieve their
highest athletic potential. When they walk out onto the field together, they
are truly brothers, with all differences of social status, race and even
religious differences rendered meaningless.
We are fortunate that our campus reflects the diversity of
our region, and that diversity is a large part of what makes De La Salle such a
special place. It is not a private school in the sense of privilege, but rather
private because of our mission to teach the values of Christ; compassion, caring
and service to others. Our school is a place where students of all backgrounds
pray, study and play side-by-side, and make friendships that will last a
lifetime. We can only hope that Saint John Baptist de La Salle would be proud
of our efforts and results.
Sincerely,
Brother Christopher Brady, FSC
