New and Returning Parent/Student Checklist

with Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

This is our electronic version of your Summer Packet. In June we mailed a postcard announcing this change and you will received a voice message and email beginning the week of July 11th directing you to this page for what is now your "Parent/Student Summer checklist." The green highlighted text in the items below are links to more information on that subject.


Note: asterisk * means requires immediate attention

__ Do *Information Updates and Agreements through Powerschool
(*required for
one parent/guardian to complete) Must be completed for all students by 11:59P on Friday, August 5, 2016. Your son will not be able to pick up his textbooks in August without having completed this process.

__ *Do my summer reading? (click to review summer reading schedule)

__ Get my schedule? Can I make changes? (as needed, August 4th and 5th). I'm in an AP class, how do I register for the test? You must register and pay for the test by Friday, August 12th, 2016.

__ Get my device(s)*ready? (laptops required for all 9th/10th graders; strongly encouraged for 11th/12th graders) Tech Boot Camp (August 2-5, & 8) for all new students. Math Department requires calculators for all students. Recommended: TI-83 or TI-84 models. Students cannot use the TI-89.

__ How do I communicate with Teachers? (Powerschool, Schoology and Google Accounts). All students have these accounts and should use them regularly. New students will learn how to use them at Tech Boot Camp. (FYI: Powerschool student username and password will be emailed to your parents.)

__ *Are my Finances current with the DLS Business office? Students cannot pick up their books or complete the mandatory Student Orientation process (August 15th) until their tuition account is current (July and August paid) and lost book fees are paid in full. Ms. Resch in the business office will have contacted you if your financial account needs attention. Hence, there is no need to call. Parents, please assist your son by attending to this as soon as possible.

__ *Attend New Student & Parent Orientation Evening: Thursday August 11th, at 6:30P in the DLS Theatre (*required for all NEW students).

__ *Pick up my books? Required Book Distribution dates August 11, 12, 13. No book distribution on Monday, August 15th.

__ Is there a meal program at the cafeteria? Register for MY SCHOOL BUCKS on or after August 1st to enroll in the prepaid meal program (*recommended)

__ Get my student photo order ready (*optional)
To order after Orientation Day, you will need your student ID number. Order Photos on-line here.

__ How do I get a parking pass? Where is my Parking Spot? Is it too late to
get a Parking Spot? What If I take Public Transportation or need a carpool?


__ What's my Student LOCKER NUMBER and LOCKER COMBINATION? Your locker information is inside Powerschool at the bottom of the "Grades and Attendance" page. Students will also receive their locker information when they pick up their books. Students enrolled in PE will get a gym locker. Lockers for athletes are limited by season of sport.

__ When is the first day of school? Mandatory ALL Student Orientation Day is Monday, August 15th. Attendance will be taken. Students report to the DLS theatre as follows: 8:15A Freshmen, 9:15A Sophomores, 10:15A Seniors, 11:15A Juniors. Contact Mr. Dyer if your son cannot attend (dyerj@dlshs.org or 925-288-8124). An optional joint (DLS & CHS) Senior panoramic picture will be taken at 12:00P in the Carondelet amphitheater.


__ How do I Find out about Campus Ministry? Sign up for Retreats (Kairos, Junior Retreat and Parent-Son Information) or Immersion Programs? (SIP and Ven a Ver)

__ How does DLS handle Concussions? Concussion Management Protocol

__ Who's My Counselor? Can I get Academic Accommodations? What programs does the Counseling Department offer? - Orientation Program for Parent Support (OPPS)

__ What's coming up in the De La Salle Advancement office and the Parents Association? DLS Classic Evening Information

__ I'm going to tryout for a sports team, do I need a physical? Yes! The form is called a Pre-Participation Physical Form. This form for Freshman is part of your admissions process and must be turned in to the main office by Friday, August 5th. Returning students turn the form into the DLS trainers before they can participate in sports. FYI: John Muir Orthopedics - Pass To Play (July 30) is an easy way to get your Form completed before the school year starts.

__ What should I do if I'm sick or have a doctor's appointment and will be missing school?
