Mission
The English Department provides an education that prepares its students for college and life by instructing them to read, write, and speak well, and to think critically while fostering an appreciation for the power of language to inspire, persuade and articulate the human experience.
Philosophy
Competency in language is a basic necessity for life. Therefore, the development of our students' linguistic competency depends on regularity of practice in listening, reading, speaking and writing. Furthermore, all the language arts must be developed simultaneously. Care must be given to the structuring of a learning environment in which individual differences are accounted for, and freedom of expression and independence of thought are honored.
