De La Salle encourages all qualified students of any race or religion to apply to its school. Since we recognize that the tuition may be a significant financial burden for some of our families, De La Salle's Financial Aid Program has been established to provide financial assistance to those families who qualify.

The De La Salle Financial Aid Program is supported by our generous donor base, tuition, and an Endowment established to assist those in financial need. This year we were able to provide over $1.6 million in financial assistance to over 230 students and their families, which is approximately 23 percent of the students at De La Salle.

Key Facts About the De La Salle Financial Aid Program:

  • Any family may apply.
  • One application per family (not per student).
  • The PSAS (Private Student Aid Service) form needs to be completed in order to be considered for financial assistance.
  • PSAS forms must be completed and submitted each year that financial aid is requested.
  • Requests for PSAS forms for the 2008-2009 school year must be turned in to De La Salle by December 3, 2007.
  • PSAS applications will be mailed on December 14, 2007, to families that have requested them.
  • PSAS forms must be completed and returned to De La Salle on or before February 15, 2008, for incoming freshmen and February 22, 2008, for returning students. Late applications will not be considered during the first granting phase of financial aid grants.
  • Financial aid is granted only based upon the financial need of the family.
  • Once acceptance of incoming freshmen to De La Salle is determined, letters will be mailed to freshman families notifying them of their De La Salle financial assistance grant.
  • Families of returning students will be notified of their 2008-
2009 financial assistance grant when the 2008-2009 tuition contracts are mailed during the first part of April, 2008.
Applications for financial aid are reviewed by a Financial Aid Committee.

The Diocesan FACE (Family Aid to Catholic Education) program is also available. Your PSAS application will automatically be considered for the FACE program.

The Independent Scholarship Fund is also available for need based or merit scholarships. To apply for a grant through ISF, please visit their website at www.independent.org or call (510) 632-1366, ext. 108, for an application.

PLEASE NOTE: The Financial Aid Committee is entirely separate from the Admissions Committee which has no knowledge of an applicant's financial status nor does it have influence in the financial aid process. The admissions process is not affected by a family applying for Financial Aid. The awarding of Financial Aid is separate and distinct from the Admissions process. Admission to De La Salle High School is based on the scholastic and citizenship merits of the student. Admission to the Financial Aid Program is based on the family's financial need.

The Bishop John S. Cummins Scholarship Program:

"Rooted in the Mission of Service to the Poor through education."

The Bishop John S. Cummins Scholarship targets students with significant financial need by giving them access to a Catholic, Lasallian education, the financial means to achieve it, and the tools to fully participate and excel in high school. The Bishop Cummins Scholarship Program is designed for students who demonstrate academic potential and have expressed a strong desire to attend De La Salle High School, but whose families' income is at or below the adjusted federal poverty level. Through need-based tuition assistance and financial support, low-income students and their families will be able to fully participate in all of the co-curricular opportunities De La Salle has to offer.
