BREADCRUMB

Athletics

De La Salle has a rich history in athletics. Many know our name from the fame we garnered during our 151-game football winning streak under the watchful eye of Coach Bob Ladouceur. However, we’ve been a force of nature across all of our athletic programs for many years. In total, our athletic teams have collected 277 league titles, 186 North Coast Section (NCS) championships, 18 Northern California championships, 25 CIF State Championships, and six national titles.

Our players go on to have highly successful collegiate careers, as well as professional sports careers in Major League Soccer, the National Football League, Major League Baseball, and the National Basketball Association to name a few. We have even had former student-athletes compete in U.S. Championships, on national teams, and at the Olympics.

Yet our athletics program is more than just a sports platform; it embodies a profound sense of brotherhood and family. Rooted in a rich tradition that spans decades, our program fosters a strong sense of camaraderie among our student-athletes, coaches, and supporters. As soon as our students step onto the playing field, they become part of a tight-knit community. One that is united by a shared passion for sports and the values that we uphold. Brotherhood is at the core of every team. Athletes learn to support and encourage each other, both on and off the field, and they forge lifelong bonds that extend beyond graduation.

The success that we have had comes from unwavering commitment and dedication. With a strong emphasis on hard work, discipline, and perseverance, student-athletes learn the value of pushing their limits and striving for excellence. Our coaches play a crucial role in instilling these values, serving as mentors and role models - guiding students to become not just better athletes, but better individuals. This commitment to personal growth and development cultivates a deep sense of pride and loyalty within the De La Salle athletics community and helps set us apart from other high school programs

2023 Fall Sports Recap

The tradition of excellence continued for De La Salle Athletics during the 2023 fall sports season. The Spartans won a North Coast Section Championship and a Northern California title in football. In cross country, Trey Caldwell, who was the NCS Division 2 Individual Champion, finished fourth at the CIF State Meet and qualified for the Footlocker Cross Country National Championships. The water polo team had a perfect 8-0 season against league opponents and won the EBAL Championship.

2022-23 Year In Review

At the end of the 2022-2023 school year, De La Salle was once again named the top boys' sports program in California by Cal-Hi Sports. This capped a phenomenal season that saw the Spartans winning the CIF State Golf Championship, as well as the CIF Northern California Baseball Championship.

In addition to the state championships, De La Salle collected 11 NCS championships across a wide range of sports including water polo, golf, swimming and diving, baseball, football, lacrosse, track and field (2), volleyball, and wrestling (2). It also picked up five East Bay Athletic League (EBAL) championships.

At the club level, our rugby team won the NorCal Championship and earned a No. 1 ranking in the state and our trap team swept first place in the League, State, and National Championships for both the varsity and junior varsity teams.

What is a Spartan?

Many moons ago, our (then) varsity football coach, Bob Ladouceur, wrote an article about what it means to be a Spartan. His words hold true today, just as they did at the time. Each of our sports programs embodies a profound sense of brotherhood.  As soon as our students step foot onto the field of play, they become part of a tight-knit community, united by their shared passion for sports and the values they uphold.

Expectations of Athletes

As a school, we are focused on preparing our students for college and life. As such, student-athletes must maintain a 2.0 GPA to participate in our sports programs. To this end, our athletic department works closely with De La Salle educators to ensure that each student-athlete feels fully supported in their pursuit of learning. Our student-athletes are also expected to display good sportsmanship at all times. We encourage both current and future athletes to familiarize themselves with our Sportsmanship Code.
