  • Golf News

    5/14/12 - The Falcons carded an impressive five-player score of 4-over 354 to win the team title at the NCS Division I Tournament of Champions at Castlewood Country Club's Hill Course. Dublin (383) and San Ramon Valley (387) grabbed the final two qualifying spots for next Monday's Northern California Regional Championships. De La Salle, the East Bay Athletic League tournament champion and last year's NorCal champion, had to absorb a score of 90 and finished fourth at 391. (full story)

    4/30/12 - After finishing 2nd in the league standings, the Spartan Golf Team took command of the EBAL Championships, finishing 1st, ahead of league champion Foothill, 373-377. The victory was lead by senior Adam Yount's 2-under par 70 at the Diablo Grande golf club, and teammates Justin Pagila (73), Cameron Gardner (75), Ryan Thompson (76), and Brandon Roberts (79).

    5/12/12 - Track & Field - EBAL Championships: Amador Valley's Josh Slaton won the boys 200 meters (22.51), the 400 (49.82) and ran a leg the victorious 400 and 1600 relay teams to lead the Dons to the team title with 117 points, just ahead of De La Salle (113). (full story)

    3/22/12 - Distance runner Blair Hurlock finished in 12th place in the 1,500-meter run at the Hornet Invitational Open track and field meet March 12 at Sacramento State University. Hurlock, a sophomore at De La Salle High School, competed among collegiate-level runners and logged a time of 4 minutes, 5.68 seconds in the event. The race included 29 runners.     5/21/11 - Spartans win NCS Tri-Valley Championship.
    De La Salle won the boys team title, getting wins from Michael Barton, Kyle Williams in the 3,200 (9:31.30), James Van Wyck in the pole vault (15-2) and its 400 relay team. Michael Barton won the boys 110-meter hurdles in 14.45 seconds but was disqualified in the 300 hurdles -- an event in which he entered the day ranked ninth in the state, according to DyeStatCal.com. He knocked over the fifth hurdle and it went into the adjacent lane, impeding that runner's progress.

    5/10/12 - The Spartan Volleyball Team has had an impressive season, going undefeated in the EBAL with a 14-0 record, winning 42 matches and losing only 3. Their overall record of 31-2 has kept them atop of the East Bay Rankings all season and should earn them the number one seed in this year's NCS Championships.

    4/23/12 - With their stunning domination and ultimate championship victory in the Bellarmine Tournament, beating all six teams in straight sets, the Spartans have been ranked 3rd in the State, the highest of any NorCal team, by Maxpreps. (State rankings)

    4/30/12 - Spartan Duo wins EBAL Doubles Championship. Alec Bakos and John Philip stepped up their game to an extremely high level, to a level you can only hope to get in a final round - it was VERY impressive to watch. They dominated the top seeds from Monte Vista from the beginning, and became the EBAL Doubles Champions, winning in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0. (story by coach Jim Puccetti)

    4/27/12 - The North Coast Section football playoffs will remain status quo for the 2012 season after a proposal to add an open division was voted down by the section's board of managers Friday in San Rafael. Under the East Bay Athletic League's plan, which failed by a vote of 24 to 13, the Division I playoffs would have broken into two eight-team divisions. (full story)

    2/1/12 - A trio of Spartan football players signed Letter of Intents for their college choices - Michael Barton (Cal), Bart Houston (Wisconsin), and Josh Jenkins (Army) (full story). DLS alumni Conner Peters (Laney College) signed with Boise State.

    1/29/12 - Michael Barton, Bart Houston, and Anthony Williams join the 30th edition of the Cream of the Crop Class. And for only the third time in the last 30 years, six of the region's top 20 prospects are headed to Berkeley. The group of six has become a close-knit bunch intent on opening a newly refurbished Memorial Stadium in style. (full story)

    12/22/11 - Conner Peters, a former DLS star, fully expected to sign with San Diego State as a midyear transfer early Wednesday morning. But he changed his mind when Boise State - his dream destination all along - offered him a scholarship before the FedEx packet arrived from the Aztecs. (full story)

    11/4/11 - Scott Crichton remembers his first meeting with Dylan Wynn. Crichton, Oregon State’s redshirt freshman defensive end, was going through a summer workout session with other returning players. "Coach Wynn", also a D-end, was the only true freshman watching from the sidelines. (full story)

    3/20/12 - Defenders Johnny Marcinkowski and Isaiah Dargan were named to the All East Bay Soccer 1st Team. Junior Goalkeeper Andrew Konstantino was named to the second team. (All East Bay Soccer Teams)

    2/25/12 - An unprecedented fourth title in a row, the Spartans topped San Ramon Valley 2-0 at Dublin High for their 10th overall NCS title in Saturday's championship game. The game was scoreless for 65 minutes, but DLS kept the pressure on and finally broke through in the 66th minute when Carlo Eikani buried the ball into the top of the net. (full story)

    2/23/12 - Spartan Johnny Marcinkowski was voted the "Most Valuable Player" for this year's All EBAL soccer team. Eight other members were named to the first (Molineux, Dargan, Konstantino) and second (Martinez, Rowling) teams, or received Honorable Mention (Eikani, Bob, McNell). All EBAL Team

    4/20/12 - San Jose Earthquakes' Chris Wondolowski stays in contact with Jurgen Klinsmann, U.S. Team. The striker is off to a fast start to the MLS season and hopes to rejoin the U.S. national team, which begins World Cup qualifying in June. (complete story)

    4/18/12 - Mark Halvorson, Coach of the Year. With a mix of defending section champions and newcomers to the sport, Halvorson guided the Spartans to new heights during the 2011-12 season. De La Salle won a North Coast Section dual title for the six straight year (fourth in Division I). With six individual champions, the Spartans then won the section meet with a staggering 318.5 points, more than 130 points ahead of second place College Park. De La Salle finished fourth at the state meet, placing higher than any other Northern California school.

    4/10/12 - Senior guard Amadi Udendyi and Junior forward Elliott Pitts were name to the All East Bay Basketball First Team. (complete team list)

    3/13/12 - Jesuit-Carmichael outscored De La Salle 14-3 in the final three minutes, nine seconds Tuesday to stun the host Spartans 44-41 in the CIF Division I Northern Regional semifinals. The Marauders' Akachi Okugo drilled a go-ahead 3-pointer with 35 seconds left and two free throws by Bryce Pressley with 5.4 seconds left sealed the upset win. (full story) - NorCal Brackets

    3/10/12 - The host Spartans rode a hot start from junior Elliott Pitts and the defense did the rest in a NorCal Division I quarterfinal. Pitts scored 16 of his game-high 24 points in the first nine minutes of the game to help De La Salle (28-2) to a 54-40 victory over Pleasant Grove-Elk Grove. (full story)

    As a sophomore at Diablo Valley College, Jordan Estrada shot 40.6 percent from behind the three-point line, including 73.7 percent (14-19) during the Viking’s three Northern California Regional games. While his outside shooting certainly attracted the attention of Hornets Coach Brian Katz, it was Estrada’s leadership that has earned him a place with the Sacramento State men’s basketball team.     Behind the 19 points and 10 rebounds of sophomore John McArthur, his first career double-double, Santa Clara defeated San Jose State on Saturday night 84-58 at the Leavey Center. The Broncos are winners of eight of the last 10 vs. the Spartans. McArthur was a perfect 11 of 11 from the free throw line and Coach Keating is 17-1 when Santa Clara scores 80+. (story)

    5/5/12 - Mistakes in the late innings proved too much for the De La Salle High baseball team to overcome as the Spartans lost 5-4 to Bishop Amat-La Puente in the final game of the Dave Stewart/Oakland A's Showdown at O.co Coliseum. (full story)

    5/4/12 - De La Salle's Andrew Buckley brought his football mentality to the baseball diamond Friday afternoon. The end result was a robust pitching effort, as Buckley tossed a four-hitter with seven strikeouts in the Spartans' 4-0 win over host San Ramon Valley in an EBAL first-place showdown. The victory gives De La Salle a one-game lead over both the Wolves and California. (full story)

    De La Salle High running back Lucas Dunne, who helped lead the Spartans to the CIF Open Division title this year, said Friday that he’s headed to Berkeley to play rugby for Jack Clark and the Golden Bears next season.

    12/4/11 - Thomas Nelson and Princeton take 3rd at NCAAs.
    With less than 30 seconds remaining in the NCAA Men’s Water Polo Consolation Game, No. 13 Princeton held the ball and an 8-7 lead over No. 10 University of California, San Diego. A failed attempt at a goal followed by a big defensive stop would see the Tigers through to victory, but a goal would put the game away for good.     11/19/11 - Lead by Spartan runners Evan Molineus and Luke Williams, who finished 2nd and 4th, the De La Salle Cross Country Team won the NCS 2011 Division 1 Championship!! With runners John Jankowski and Clark Messman finishing in the top 15, the Team beat second place Amador Valley 45-87; both teams qualify for the CIF State Championship on Saturday, November 26th.     11/5/11 - The Spartan Cross Country finished 3rd in this year's EBAL Championship, behind winner San Ramon Valley and second place Amador Valley. Evan Molineux ran a fantastic race, finishing second overall with a time of 15:27.45.

    8/1/11 - Robb Van Wyck shatters his personal best
    On the men's side, junior Robb Van Wyck shattered his personal best by over 30 seconds, eclipsing the 25-minute barrier for the first time and clocking the second fastest time in school history and fastest ever for a junior, finishing 45th overall with a time of 24:57.2.

    Top 10 Greatest High School Boy runners in US History
    #6 - Rich Kimball - (class of 1974) Won the 1974 World Junior XC Championships in high school. Eventual 2-time World XC champ (and 1984 Olympic marathon silver medalist). Kimball ran a 4:02 mile and an 8:46.2 2 mile in track.

    Connor Hunt - De La Salle, Defender, Sr. -- The Cornell-bound Hunt was named an All-American and helped the Spartans allow just 114 goals in 22 games this year.

    8/13/11 - Ipsen wins US Diving Title
    Kristian Ipsen rallied to win the 3-meter springboard title at the U.S. diving championships Saturday, doing the toughest final three dives among the top contenders. Ipsen totaled 499.50 points in the six-dive final at UCLA, getting back into contention in the fourth round with a dive that earned marks of 9.0 and higher. (complete story)

    2/8/12 - Stanford freshman Kristian Ipsen was selected Pac-12 diver of the month for January, the second-straight month he has won the award. Ipsen, a De La Salle High graduate, has won all 14 collegiate 1- and 3-meter contests this season, eight of those in January. (story at cctimes.com)

    U.S. Divers Finish 4th in 3-Meter Synchro-Diving
    Americans, Troy Dumais with Stanford freshman and De La Salle graduate, Kristian Ipsen, settled for fourth at 429.06, the highest finish for the United States so far. They were in second place going into the last dive, but Dumais missed on a reverse 2 1/2 somersault with 1 1/2 twists to drop out of medal contention.
