Coach Justin Argenal Joins De La Salle High School as Head Basketball Coach
(2016-08-31) - De La Salle High School today announced the appointment of Coach Justin Argenal. Argenal, a De La Salle grad of the class of 2004, has an impressive playing and coaching resume since leaving Concord.
Coach Argenal was a four-year team captain at Chico State, and is the CCAA's and schools all-time leader in steals and assists. He earned a bachelor of arts in psychology from CSUC in 2009 before completing his master's degree in coaching and athletic administration from Concordia University (Irvine) in 2010. Argenal brings nine years of NCAA coaching experience to the Spartans, and comes to De La Salle from Cal State Dominguez Hills where he was the head assistant basketball coach. Prior to his last coaching job, he was assistant coach at Southeast Missouri State, The Citadel and two seasons as director of basketball operations at Louisiana Tech. Argenal started his coaching career as a graduate assistant at the University of Mississippi where he focused on academic success of student-athletes and implementation of individual workouts for offseason player development.
According to De La Salle’s Vice President for Athletics Leo Lopoz, Coach Argenal understands and what it means to be a student-athlete. “His education, playing career, and coaching experience along with his work ethic and integrity make him a perfect fit for our program and I am confident he will make a major impact both within and outside of the De La Salle community, “said Lopoz. “We are thrilled to welcome Justin and his wife Suzanne back to the De La Salle family. Justin exemplifies everything that we are looking for in our next coach; his personal values and beliefs reflect those of our school, and we believe he will further build upon a successful tradition for our basketball program.”
Justin said, “It is an honor and privilege to serve as Head Basketball Coach at De La Salle High School, a place that has such rich history and tradition. I had a tremendously positive experience here as a student-athlete and I look forward to helping provide that same experience to the student-athletes that I will coach. I look forward to entrenching myself in the DLS community and am excited about the challenges that lie ahead.”
In addition to his appointment as head basketball coach, Justin will serve in a new position of Director of Institutional Enrichment Programs. As the Director, he will be responsible for developing new enrichment programs in several areas and expanding existing ones focused on athletic activities whose net revenue will be used to provide access and support for students from families of limited financial resources.
De La Salle President Mark DeMarco echoed Lopoz’s thoughts. “De La Salle High School is proud to announce Justin Argenal as our new head basketball coach,” he said. “Justin embodies
De La Salle’s vision and values. De La Salle forms men as leaders in the Lasallian tradition both on and off the court to make a positive difference in our world to educate men of faith, integrity, and scholarship.”
