Social Justice & Action
Students at De La Salle are offered an unlimited amount of opportunities to practice their Lasallian heritage of a spirit of service and concern for the poor. All sophomores participate in SIP (Sophomore Immersion Program), a one day experience walking in the shoes of the poor in San Francisco's Tenderloin District. Juniors and Seniors have an opportunity to attend "Venaver" (come and see) a five day immersion of service, prayer, community and simplicity in Salinas, CA. and Tijuana, Mexico. In addition the student body participates in food, clothing and toy drives throughout the year. We also support our twin Lasallian school, Nativity in Shinara, Eritrea, Africa. The Campus Ministry Office in conjunction with the Service Learning Coordinator maintains an updated list on possible service and justice opportunities throughout the county.
Worship
Throughout the year, the Lasallian Community at De La Salle gathers for prayer and worship. These gatherings include for all school Liturgies, as well as Thanksgiving, Advent and Lenten prayer services. All liturgical celebrations are planned for the students. Everyone is encouraged to take an active role in the prayer life of De La Salle. In addition, The Christian Brothers offer Mass at7:00 p.m. Tuesday thru Friday in the chapel. All are welcome to attend. There are also a number of family and class liturgies prepared by the Parents Association.
Morning Prayer
Each morning, students are invited to join Faculty and Staff for a short morning prayer around the cross in the court yard at 7:50 a.m.
Lasallian Youth
A Celebration of Faith Service and Community In the spirit of St. John Baptist de La Salle, students seek to know Christ intimately through a variety of experiences including the direct service to the community, especially the poor. Through their active participation students grow in leadership, spirituality, and a mature awareness of what it means to be a responsible follower of Christ Lasallian Youth, in particular; are students who choose to take a leadership role in the spiritual direction of the school, as well as in the Christian Brothers District of San Francisco. Together with students from other Lasallian high schools around the country, our students celebrate their oneness in faith and in Lasallian identity. Every summer, students from school in the Midwest, New Orleans, Santa Fe and San Francisco Districts gather for a week of service prayer and worship.
