Band - Goals and Objectives
1 - To develop skills in analysis, evaluation and synthesis to be able to experience and understand the aesthetics of music.
- Understand the uses of elements of music and expressive devices in diverse repertoire
- Demonstrate extensive knowledge of the technical vocabulary of music
- Create specific criteria for making informed evaluations of the quality and effectiveness of performances, compositions, arrangements and apply the criteria in their personal participation in music
2 - Achieve instrumental competency
- learn chromatic, major and minor scales
- demonstrate good tone quality
- understand the inherent intonation problems of their instrument
- understand the proper care and maintenance of their instrument
3 - Develop a proficient level of reading music
- Practice rhythm reading daily
- Understand to interpret nonstandard notation symbols used by some 20th-century composers
4 - Explore and perform a variety of wind band literature.
- learn historical background information about the composition and composer
- explore the work as a creative art form
- understand stylistic and performance practices of the period that the composition represents
- understand composition techniques used by the composer
5 - Explore performance in chamber & secondary ensembles
- understand stylistic and performance practices of the period that the composition represents
- the opportunity to perform a secondary instrument
