11/24/12 - CIF Championships - Matt Schumann and Luke Williams guided De La Salle to a respectful 12th place finish at this year's CIF Cross Country State Championships. Finishing 14th and 31st respectively, along with teammates Messman, Jankowski, and Schwartz, they achieved the best East Bay finish, ahead of NCS Champs San Ramon Valley, who finished 14th.

11/17/12 - NCS Championships - Luke Williams (3rd) and Matt Schumann (5th) helped lead De La Salle to a second place finish in 2012 Cross Country NCS Championship held at Hayward's 3 mile course. Teammates Clark Messman (15th), John Jankowski (18th) and Sean Wanket (19th) combined for a team total of 60 points, behind winner San Ramon Valley's 40 point team total.

11/7/12 - Matthew Schumann and Luke Williams were named to the All EBAL Cross Country 1st Team and teammate John Jankowski received 2nd Team honors. (complete list)

11/2/12 - EBAL Championships - De La Salle sophomore Matt Schumann won the boys race in an impressive time of 14:58.50. He led at the one-mile mark with San Ramon Valley's Zach Hanze, then moved ahead. Hanze finished second in 15:12.39. Amador Valley won the boys championship team title with a clutch performance. Led by the sixth-place finish of Jacob Schlachte (15:29.91), the Dons finished with a score of 50, edging out San Ramon Valley (52) and De La Salle (55).

10/10/12 - The Spartan Cross Country X-men won both Team and Individual honors at the EBAL Center Meet, held at Oak Hill Park in Danville. DLS runners Matthew Schumann, Luke Williams, and Blair Hurlock went 1-2-3 to push DLS to a 7-0 EBAL record. San Ramon Valley finished second at 6-1, and Amador Valley, 5-2.

9/27/12 - De La Salle's cross country coach John Pelster doesn't mince words when he talks about this season's team. "This is so far the fastest team I've coached," said Pelster, who has led the Spartans for the past six seasons and was an assistant coach from 1991-2005. The Spartans won this year's De La Salle/Carondelet Nike Invitational convincingly on Sept. 15 and were also second in the large-school race at the Ed Sias Invitational. (full story)

9/15/12 - Blair Hurlock, who we chronicled at an out-of-state indoor meet as a sophomore last year, continues to rise up the ranks while at De La Salle. The seasoned junior rode his distinctly powerful prance-like stride to scamper away from the competition, winning over Sonora’s Steven Grolle, 15:12 to 15:24. Hurlock took control of the race early on and never really appeared to be threatened for the victory. We believe it’s the second-fastest time in meet history, bettered only by Jake Schmitt’s 15:04 performance way back in 2004. (full story)

9/15/12 - For the second week in a row, a Spartan runner has won a cross country event. Blair Hurlock took 1st place in the DLS-CHS Nike Invitational with a winning time of 15:12.68, 12 seconds ahead of the second place finisher. Teammates Schumann, Williams, Jankowski, Wanket, Capinpin, and Messman combined for a 1st place team score of 78. (complete results)

9/8/12 - Luke Williams won the individual title in the Ed Sias Invitational Cross Country race on Saturday, edging Ryan Anderson from Maria Carrillo High School by one second, in a time of 10:26.7. Luke's victory helped DLS take second place overall in the team standings in only their first event of the year. (complete results)

9/4/12 - Cross Country Numbers Way Up in EBAL. Today, cross country is more like the bustling iPhone section of the store and less like the quiet refrigerator department. Consider this: Monte Vista has 143 participants -- 143! -- on the boys and girls squads combined. That's some serious sweat equity, and it can be found throughout the league. De La Salle routinely has around 80 runners, and San Ramon Valley's numbers match up well with Monte Vista's. (full story)
