Concord, Calif. (August 6, 2021) - De La Salle High School today announced the appointment of Marcus Schroeder ’06 as the school’s Head Varsity Basketball Coach. Schroeder returns to De La Salle after an impressive playing and coaching resume at the collegiate level.
“Marcus’ education, playing career, and coaching experience, along with his work ethic and integrity, make him a perfect fit for our program,” said Vice President for Athletics, Leo Lopoz. “I am confident he will make a major impact both within and outside of the De La Salle community.”
Schroeder brings 10 years of NCAA coaching experience to Winton Drive and returns to De La Salle from Saint Mary’s College where he was the Associate Head Basketball Coach for the nationally-ranked men’s basketball program. Schroeder started his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Saint Mary’s College in 2012 and has been an integral component to all aspects of the Saint Mary’s program since joining the staff.
“It is an honor and privilege to serve as Head Basketball Coach at De La Salle High School, a place that has such rich history and tradition,” said Schroeder. “I had a tremendously positive experience there as a student-athlete and I look forward to helping provide that same experience to the student-athletes that I will coach. I look forward to entrenching myself in the De La Salle community and am excited about the challenges that lie ahead.”
Coach Schroeder was a four-year basketball player at Princeton University, where he earned a bachelor of arts in history in 2010, before completing his master's degree in kinesiology from Saint Mary’s College of California in 2013.
“De La Salle High School is excited that Marcus Schroeder will join our community and bring his commitment to our Lasallian tradition on and off the court,” said De La Salle President, David Holquin. “De La Salle forms men who enter our community to learn and grow and leave to serve. Coach Schroeder is an example of how our alumni go on to give back to their community and make a positive difference in our world as men of faith, integrity, and scholarship.”
In addition to his appointment as head basketball coach, Schroeder will serve as Assistant Athletic Director. In that position, he will be responsible for expanding the reach and growth of our athletic camps and academic enrichment programs. The net revenue from these programs are used to provide access and support for students from families of limited financial resources through the school’s Bishop John Cummins Scholarship Program.
“We are thrilled to welcome Marcus and his wife Erin and daughter Ruth back to the De La Salle family,” said Lopoz. “Marcus exemplifies everything that we are looking for in our next coach; his personal values and beliefs reflect those of our school, and we believe he will further build upon a successful tradition for our basketball program.”
