Concord, Calif. (Dec. 11, 2020) - De La Salle High School faculty member Chris Miller, Ph.D., is excited to announce a handbook on suicide in the Catholic Church, which was released on November 20th by Ave Maria Press, which features a chapter on youth ministry and suicide written by Dr. Miller.
The book, titled Responding to Suicide: A Pastoral Handbook for Catholic Leaders, is the first book written for Catholic leaders that takes a holistic approach to understanding suicide and ministering effectively in its aftermath. More than a dozen leading mental health practitioners, Catholic theologians (including California Bishops Bishop Kevin Vann, Bishop John Dolan, Archbishop Cordileone, and Washington DC Cardinal Gregory) and pastoral care experts share how best to respond to suicide as leaders in parishes, schools, healthcare systems, and other Church settings.
Dr. Miller said, “I am truly honored to have been asked to contribute a chapter and include my experiences working as a youth ministry coordinator in Palo Alto, CA; working with the Developmental Assets Framework; and my personal experience with suicide in Connecticut.”
The book is available for purchase through Amazon, and all proceeds from sales will go to support the Association of Catholic Mental Health Ministers.
