De La Salle to Receive the Students in Action National Student Choice Award

Concord, Calif. - This Thursday, De La Salle High School’s Students in Action team will be announced as Multiplying Good’s National Student Choice Winner. Recent De La Salle graduates JT Baird ’21 and Luke Anderson ’21 will represent the school on the live online broadcast.

“Being the National Student Choice Winners in the national Students in Action competition is an incredible honor,” said Baird. “Our team worked extremely hard for four years, and it’s an honor to have our service acknowledged nationally.”

During the 2020-21 school year, during the pandemic, De La Salle students completed more than 49,000 hours of community service and raised more than $30,000 to support local community organizations. Click here to review the interactive ThingLink presentation page that outlines the numerous charitable programs put on by De La Salle students this past school year. For this work, De La Salle was named the San Francisco Bay Area winner, requiring the submission of a lengthy written report and a presentation on Zoom detailing their service efforts before a national panel of judges. The Jefferson Awards will continue their tradition of celebrating the power of service to others with the most inspiring hour on the internet. The online broadcast of The 49th Annual Jefferson Awards, presented by Multiplying Good, will be available on the Multiplying Good website (MultiplyingGood.org/JA2021) at 4:30 p.m. PST on Thursday, September 30. Visit the website to save your seat to celebrate good.

“The pandemic has brought, and continues to bring, a lot of hardship in the lives of people in our community, so being able to make a positive impact in their lives during a difficult time is incredible,” Baird said. “De La Salle does so much incredible service in our community and has laid the foundation for me to continue to live a life of service.”

The De La Salle Student’s in Action Club started 13 years ago with the mission to help De La Salle students and the surrounding community get involved in community service. De La Salle students have completed more than 500,000 volunteer service hours, impacting more than 50,000 people, and have raised more than $150,000 since the program began. This is the first time that De La Salle High School has been selected as the SIA Bay Area Ambassador School and the National Student Choice Award winner.

The Students in Action club at De La Salle is moderated by Mr. Andrew Berkes and associated with the Service Leadership class taught by Dr. Elizabeth Berkes.
