Concord, Calif. – De La Salle is pleased to announce that Mr. Terry Eidson, a De La Salle High School institution in his own right, is the District of San Francisco New Orleans’ recipient of the Distinguished Lasallian Educator Award of 2022. The Award is presented by the Lasallian Region of North America (RELAN) to honorees from each of RELAN’s four Districts, including the District of San Francisco New Orleans within which De La Salle resides. It is given to educators from RELAN’s 79 colleges, universities, secondary schools, middle schools, and elementary schools who exemplify the ideals of St. John Baptist de La Salle, Patron Saint of Teachers of Children and Youth.
Throughout his 42-year teaching career at De La Salle, Terry has been the epitome of what it means to foster Gospel values in the lives of his students. He has proactively sought out ways to encourage students to think about faith, service, courage, hope, love, reconciliation, and community. He has done this not only through his Religious Studies class and Bishop Cummins work, but also through his coaching of Spartans on the football field, baseball field, and golf course. At all times Terry has modeled to students how to show emotion and vulnerability, talk about the word love, and learn from mistakes.
“I would say that narrowing down one way that Mr. Eidson has changed the lives of students is very difficult, as he offers so much,” said Dr. Heather Alumbaugh, Vice President for Academic Life at De La Salle High School. “Whatever he teaches, he believes in, is passionate about, and really lives. He is truly one of the most extraordinary educators with whom I have ever had the pleasure to work and is living testament to the power of Lasallian education to transform lives for the better.”
Terry will receive his Distinguished Lasallian Educator Award at the opening banquet of RELAN’s annual Huether Lasallian Conference on November 17th at the Hyatt Regency Baltimore Inner Harbor Hotel in Maryland.
