The De La Salle Crab Feed: A Tradition of Community and Celebration

The De La Salle Crab Feed: A Tradition of Community and Celebration

In the winter of 1986, Al and Diane Serafino chaired the debut Parents of Alumni Crab Feed at De La Salle High School. Born out of a desire to connect alumni families and current parents, the event quickly became a cherished tradition. Initially organized by the newly formed Parents of Alumni Association, and later by the current Parents Association, the gathering featured a festive atmosphere of food, fun, and camaraderie.

By 2012, the Crab Feed transitioned to an online-only ticket system, a move that dramatically increased demand. Tickets, once available for purchase via paper form, are now sold out within minutes. This change made the event even more sought-after, and its reputation as one of the must-attend nights on the De La Salle calendar continued to grow.

The Crab Feed is famous for its incredible menu, which features fresh crab, tri-tip, pasta, salads, and freshly baked bread. De La Salle students volunteer to serve the meal, and tips from guests benefit the Brotherhood Fund, a program that supports students in need. This element of giving back adds an extra layer of meaning to the event, reinforcing the school's values of generosity and community.

As the evening progresses, the atmosphere shifts from a casual dinner to a lively celebration. Guests head to the dance floor to reconnect, share stories, and enjoy the music. Alumni relive memories, parents bond with fellow families, and everyone dances the night away, embracing the spirit of unity that defines the Crab Feed.

Through the years, the Crab Feed has evolved, but it remains a cornerstone of the De La Salle community, a time for alumni, parents, and faculty to gather, celebrate, and support the school. It is more than just an event; it is a reflection of the school’s core values: community, generosity, and tradition. As the event sells out year after year, the Crab Feed continues to bring the De La Salle family together, reinforcing the ties that bind us.
