Letter From VP for Academic Life Regarding Heathers

Letter From VP for Academic Life Regarding Heathers

As a Lasallian Catholic school, De La Salle High School is called to live out Gospel values even if, and oftentimes because, it is uncomfortable. We often tackle challenging issues knowing that while parents are the primary educators of their children we, too, have a role in ensuring our young men are equipped to have difficult conversations on challenging topics. Precisely because we value the partnership we have with parents our spring play will be Heathers the Musical (High School Edition).

Heathers surfaces many of the issues that our students are collectively experiencing: anxiety, fitting in, depression, navigating the social circles/norms of high school, bullying, and violence in schools. These and many other topics are tackled often by both De La Salle and Carondelet, as two schools, one community. It is through dialogue that growth happens, and we collectively help our young men truly become men of faith, integrity, and scholarship. Our faculty, Company directors, and school administration are poised to continue the important work we have already begun as we empower our young men to combat negativity and cruelty and ultimately fight for a more just world.

To learn more about Heathers, please visit our Company website. Both schools are pleased that Company is a place of Educational Theatre through which art helps to enlighten, raise awareness, and open dialogue that benefits the individuals involved, the audience, and the wider community. The content of Heathers will be part of wider school conversations on the themes raised in the performance in collaboration with the school's Student Support team and various academic departments.

We look forward to watching this production and engaging in the important work that will be an outgrowth of this meaningful piece of art.

Sincerely,

Dr. Heather Alumbaugh, Vice President for Academic Life
