Concord, Calif. - De La Salle High School junior Alec Blair was today selected as the 2023-24 recipient of De La Salle’s Athlete of the Year award. The announcement was made during De La Salle’s annual Recognition Ceremony.
This year, 34 student-athletes were nominated by their coaches across 13 different sports. Five moved forward as finalists: Alec Blair (Basketball/Baseball), Trey Caldwell (Cross Country/Track & Field), Jaden Dumdumaya (Golf), Jaden Jefferson (Track & Field/Football), and Joshua Kim (Golf).
Alec was selected as the 2023-24 Athlete of the Year due to his high-level performance this year with both De La Salle’s basketball and baseball teams. Still a junior, Alec is a highly recognized professional baseball recruit and one of the top basketball prospects in the country.
On the court, Alec averaged over 18 points and five (5) rebounds per game while shooting 54% from the field. His efforts earned him the San Francisco Chronicle’s Contra Costa/Tri-Valley Regional Player of the Year title and EBAL, Cal-Hi Sports, and NorCal Preps Player of the Year. Additionally, he was a 1st team selection by Bay Area News Group, All-State, and Cal-Hi Sports. Alec is currently ranked number 30 in the nation for basketball for the class of 2025 by 247 Sports. Power 5 schools are actively recruiting him, and he has already received multiple offers.
In baseball, Alec is hitting .565 and has 12 runs, 11 RBIs, four (4) doubles, and one home run already under his belt this season. Alec was an Underclass Area Code participant and is currently ranked 22nd for the class of 2025 as a Major League Baseball prospect.
“Alec’s selection as De La Salle’s 2023-24 Athlete of the Year is a testament to his unwavering dedication and hard work,” said Leo Lopoz, Vice President for Athletics. “His exceptional performance with our basketball and baseball teams this year is truly remarkable, and it is great to see him getting the recognition he deserves – not just from De La Salle and news outlets, but also college powerhouses across the country.”
