Scott Drain Named 2024 Lasallian Educator of the Year

Concord, Calif. - Long-time De La Salle High School Counselor, Scott Drain, was today selected as the 2024 recipient of the Lasallian Educator of the Year award. The announcement was made during De La Salle’s annual Saint La Salle Mass.

Scott, who serves as Director of Student Support Services, in addition to being one of De La Salle’s four full-time Personal and Academic Counselors, continues to be a shining example of the school’s ethos to guide and teach with love, respect, and compassion.

"Scott Drian is the epitome of what it means to be a great educator,” said Dr. Alumbaugh, Vice President for Academic Life. “His relationship to education is one centered on joyfully embracing the person in front of him, celebrating their gifts, and helping them to be better versions of themselves.”

During the nomination process, multiple faculty members expressed how in touch Scott is with students and how he takes concern and interest in each and every one. Other peers mentioned how much he is trusted and respected by both students and adults alike and how he is grounded in the Lasallian faith and teaching by example.

Each year, the Lasallian Educator of the Year award honors a De La Salle educator who has been chosen by his or her peers to exemplify the qualities of the school’s Founder, St. John Baptist de La Salle. The honoree is always someone who is an exemplary educator, as well as someone who understands his/her own dignity as a child of God and who cherishes and cares for their students like an older brother or sister. Above all, recipients demonstrate an active commitment to a life of faith and express that commitment when they teach their students the importance of the spiritual life, instilling living values.

Past Lasallian Educator of the Year recipients include Mrs. Acquistapace, Mr. Aliotti, Mr. Appel, Mr. Aquino, Mr. Berkes, Ms. Dickson, Mr. Eidson, Mr. Graham, Mr. Grantham, Mr. Guthrie, Mr. Hassett, Mr. Hirsch, Mr. Ladouceur, Mrs. Mattos, Mr. Oelschlager, Mr. Olwell, Mr. Pelster, Ms. Stevenson, Mrs. Talmadge, and Mr. Zorad.
