English
"A room without books is as a body without a soul."
- Lord Avebury (1834-1913)
Mission
The English Department provides an education that prepares its students for college and life by instructing them to read, write, and speak well, and to think critically while fostering an appreciation for the power of language to inspire, persuade and articulate the human experience.
Philosophy
The English Department believes that literature communicates the richness of the human experience and that success for all students can only be achieved in a classroom environment that embraces learning differences and diverse backgrounds. We value critical thinking, original thought, and freedom of expression, which are developed through regular practice of the Language Arts: reading, writing, speaking, and listening. We believe dedication to these arts will inspire and develop a life-long appreciation for literature and learning.
