De La Salle Sophomore Jaden Dumdumaya Wins National Drive, Chip and Putt Competition


De La Salle student-athlete, Jaden Dumdumaya ’24, made a clutch 15-foot putt on the 18th Hole at Augusta National on Sunday, before celebrating with his father and mother, to win the 2022 Boys 14-15 Division Drive, Chip, and Putt competition. Out of a possible 30 points, Dumdumaya scored 29 points, winning by 10 points for one of the largest margins of victory in the history of the event.

“It still feels like a dream,” said Dumdumaya, who noted he practiced four to eight hours a day as the National Finals approached. “I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. It means a lot to me because I’ve been working at this for a good six or seven years. To win after trying for that long is something I’m very proud of.” Click here to see Dumdumaya’s interview.

This year marked the seventh time Dumdumaya has competed in the national Drive, Chip, and Putt competition, and the first time making it to the finals.

On his journey to the finals, he won the local qualifier at El Macero Country Club on July 6, 2021, then finished second at the Sub-Regional qualifier at the Haggin Oaks Golf Complex on August 3, 2021, qualifying for the regional finals. Dumdumaya was the winner at Pebble Beach Golf Links for his regional finals qualifier on September 6, 2021, achieving his goal of making for Drive, Chip, and Putt finals at Augusta. Click here to watch is Pebble Beach video.

In the finals on Sunday, April 3, 2022, Dumdumaya won two of three disciplines at the finals, winning the driving competition with a drive of 261 yards. He finished second in the chipping portion with a total distance of 7’4”, then he won the putting portion with a total distance of 0’8”, after making his last putt from 15 feet on the 18th hole at Augusta.

Dumdumaya will now return home to complete his sophomore year at De La Salle High School, where he is a current member of the Spartans’ varsity golf team.
