Healing Spaces
Healing Spaces is a club that spans both De La Salle and Carondelet High School. Each year, the club coordinates an extreme makeover of a living space belonging to someone in need within the local community. The Healing Spaces club started in 2008 with a project for a 16 year-old girl, called Devyn, who had cancer. Since then, projects have included makeovers for children in hospice, battered women's shelters, a halfway house, and a family crisis nursery.
2026 Project - " Two Hearts, One Healing Space"
This year, our Healing Spaces recipients are Camila and her mother, Marcela of Concord, CA. Marcela is recovering from cervical cancer. In addition, Camila who is 16 and a junior at Clayton Valley Charter, was recently diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer.
Camila has already undergone 10 weeks of chemotherapy and has a least onesurgery ahead of her. The tumor on her arm was removed in a seven-hour surgery at Stanford in October, with a potential follow-up surgery depending on the size and condition of the tumor.
Marcela, her mother, also had surgery in October as part of her ongoing cancer treatment and recovery.
Through Healing Spaces, we plan to provide a supportive environment for Camila and Marcela as they continue their healing journey with new furniture, lighting, window treatments, and decor. In addition, Marcela has been unable to work due to her illness and recovery, so our goal is to provide funding to help subsidize the cost of food, cleaning supplies, and other important household items.
