Healing Spaces
Healing Spaces is a club that spans both De La Salle and Carondelet High School. Each year, the club coordinates an extreme makeover of a living space belonging to someone in need within the local community. The Healing Spaces club started in 2008 with a project for a 16 year-old girl, called Devyn, who had cancer. Since then, projects have included makeovers for children in hospice, battered women's shelters, a halfway house, and a family crisis nursery.
2024 Project “Giving Back to Our Veteran Community”
This year, we are giving back to our veteran community. Our recipient is Pat Everette, the widow of a 28-year Navy veteran. Her husband, Oliver Everette, passed away from Alzheimer's a few years ago. Since then, most of her valuables have been either stolen or destroyed. Pat also had to deplete her savings to pay for a new roof for her house because of extensive leaks and water damage.
Through Healing Spaces, we are hoping to create a space where Pat can live with dignity, as well as honor the military legacy of her husband, Oliver. We plan to install a new carpet and paint the entire interior of the home. In addition, she needs new furniture, new gutters, various home repairs, and some landscaping.
The goal is to raise $10,000 to complete this year's project.
