Mandatory Incoming Student Orientation
Monday, August 12 - 9 am-3 pm

We look forward to seeing all 9th graders and transfer students at our OnBoard! Orientation Day on Monday, August 12 from 9 am - 3 pm 

What is OnBoard?
OnBoard! is an orientation program designed to welcome and support incoming 9th grade and transfer students by connecting them with responsible leaders and other students to support them as they make the transition to De La Salle. OnBoard! leaders are responsible, positive, and caring 11th and 12th graders who are prepared to teach and model the values and behavior we expect as a school. They will engage our incoming students in a variety of large and small group activities that help them learn all about what it is to be a SPARTAN. It is a great opportunity to meet other students and learn all about our campus. 

What is the schedule for orientation? 
Drop your son off in the front parking lot and tell them to follow the music. They will gather as a large group in the quad and then participate in a full day of programming including the following activities:

• Welcome and introduction from members of the President's Cabinet
• Meet the Deans, Campus Ministers, Counselors and Director of Student Activities 
• Large and small group activities
• A mini rally and mixer with the incoming Carondelet class
• Lunch
• Campus tour
• Tech check
• Textbook pick up and locker assignment
• School photo and ID distribution.

How do I order school pictures?

• Follow the provided link for School Picture ordering options.

What should my son bring? 

• Backpack, laptop, and a water bottle. 

Does my son need to bring lunch? 

• No, lunch is included free of charge.

What should my son wear? 

• Please follow the grooming and appearance standards in the student handbook "Grooming and Appearance." To summarize, wear a collared shirt,  pants or shorts with belt loops (gym attire, sweat pants, pajama pants, denim/jean shorts/pants and jogging pants are not acceptable) and shoes and socks with a back heel. No Crocks, slides or flip flops.
• Also, natural color hair, length no longer than the top of the shirt collar, and clean shaven. 

When is Orientation over? 

• Orientation concludes at 3 pm. Please pick up your son in the front parking lot.

Mandatory Returning Student Orientation
Tuesday, August 13

We look forward to seeing all our returning students (10th, 11th and 12th grades) at our Mandatory Returning Student Orientation: Tuesday, August 13. Orientation is staggered by class, so please check the start times below:

• 10th Grade: 9:00-10:30 am
• 11th Grade: 10:00-11:30 am
• 12th Grade: 11:00 am-12:30 pm

What is the schedule for orientation? 
All students will gather as a class in the theater for prayer and a class meeting. After the meeting, students will:

• Take school photos (note: 12th grade will not take photos are they are taking Senior Portraits)
• Receive Student ID Cards
• Get Locker Information
• Receive their parking passes - Driver's License Required (Juniors and Seniors only)

What should my son wear?

Students are required to complete their summer reading before the first day of classes on August 14, 2024.

2024 De La Salle Summer Reading List
(Note: Not every student will have summer reading. Please review this list carefully to know what is required of your student.)

Students must purchase their own summer reading books, they are not included in the textbook fee.

Mandatory Textbook Distribution

Textbook distribution is mandatory for all classes except 9th grade and transfer students as they will receive their books at orientation. If you are unable to attend the dates as shown below, please make prior arrangements with the Bookstore Staff (bookstore@dlshs.org).

Only students are allowed to pick up books. Parents may not pick up books for their son. 

New Student Textbook Distribution
Ninth grade and transfer students will pick up their textbooks during New Student Orientation on Monday, August 12. They do not need to sign up for a pick-up time slot. 

Sophomore, Junior, & Senior Textbook Distribution
Returning 10th-12th grade students will have two days to pick up their books, on Friday, August 9 and Monday, August 12. Students are asked to come to campus and pick up their books during the times listed below. 

• Friday, August 9 from 8 am - 12 pm
• Monday, August 12 from 8:30 - 11 am

If prior arrangements are not made, there will be a $100 service fee for books picked up after August 12 (students picking up late will not have their books for the first week of school).

Students must have completed the following three steps before they can pick up their books:

1. The online Enrollment Checklist Process through SchoolAdmin 

2. Fulfilled all financial obligations with the Business Office.

3. Completed and submitted verification for any academic remediation obligations (for returning students).

• Laptops are required for ALL students. Please visit our Technology Resources page for specifications and recommendations on laptops for use at De La Salle.
  Please note: Google Chromebooks or tablets do not meet our specs and should not be purchased as approved devices.
   
• All incoming students will complete an Online Tech Boot Camp course through Schoology. Information to access the course will be sent out to families and incoming students. The course is available from July through the opening of school and takes between 30 minutes to an hour to complete. It should be completed prior to attending our mandatory Freshman/Transfer Orientation, Monday, August 12.
   
• Students should bring their laptops for a brief Tech Check during Orientation. During Tech Check, students will pair their devices to the De La Salle Wi-Fi, add wireless printing connections to our Library printers, and troubleshoot any technical issues prior to the start of school.

• The Math Department requires graphing calculators for all students.
• Students in Algebra 1, 1A or Honors Algebra 1 will need a graphing calculator for the first unit of the year.
• Recommended: TI-83 or TI-84 models.
• Students cannot use the TI-89, TI Inspire or any HP or Casio calculator.

All Freshman, transfer students, and their parents are asked to attend our New Student and Parent Welcome Liturgy & BBQ on Sunday, August 18, 2024, from 9:30 am - 12 pm

Pre-participation physicals should be submitted to the De La Salle Athletic Sports Medicine Office. If you are a new student and participating in a fall sport, you must turn it in BEFORE you try out or practice. Please note that physicals are only valid for one calendar year. 

• ALL NEW STUDENTS must complete this form, even if they are not playing a sport.
• ANY STUDENT-ATHLETE needs to complete this form if they play on participating in athletics.

Students cannot pick up their books or complete the Mandatory Student Orientation process until their tuition contract is completed and their July and August payments are current, including payments of any lost book fees.

The Business Office will have already contacted you through SchoolAdmin if your financial account needs attention. Hence, there is no need to call to confirm the status of your account. Parents, please assist your son by attending to this as soon as possible.

Families with unresolved financial matters will be blocked from logging into PowerSchool (PS) and Schoology and will therefore be unable to view 2024-25 class schedules, etc. Once their account is up-to-date, they will be able to access PowerSchool and Schoology.

Sophomore Liturgy and Brunch

Sophomore students and their families are encouraged to attend the Sophomore Liturgy and Brunch on Sunday, September 15, 2024. Liturgy will begin promptly at 9:30 am in the Theater and Brunch will follow in the Hofmann Center.

Junior Mass of Unity
Sunday, October 20, 2024, at 9:30 am

Junior students and their families are encouraged to attend the Junior Mass of Unity and Ring Ceremony. Ring orders were placed this past spring. Stay tuned for a ring payment day during lunch when we return to school in August.

The De La Salle Cafeteria uses the payment platform "MySchoolbucks."

Register for your son's "MySchoolBucks" lunch account after August 1, 2024 to enroll in the prepaid payment plan.

The prepaid account is linked to your son’s student ID card. By scanning his card at the cashier station, he will not need to use the touchpad or exchange cash with our cashiers which are important in limiting the spread of the coronavirus.

Returning students can use last year's account.

Please note: You will not be able to register for an account until August 1.

Campus Ministry is an integral part of student life at De La Salle. Through liturgies, immersion programs, retreats, faith groups, and participation in the Lasallian Youth, students are able to emulate the life and deeds of our Founder in service, faith, and community.

Campus Ministry has prepared many opportunities for your sons to experience the De La Salle brotherhood and a vital faith life. We strongly encourage you to sign up for the retreats that fill up fast, especially the Kairos (Senior) Retreat, Father & Son Retreat, and Parent  & Son Retreat. You might also want to begin thinking about your sons participating in one or both of the VENAVER (Come and See) Immersion programs. Registration and more information about VENAVER will be forthcoming.

The Carondelet Morning Shuttle Service has space for De Le Salle students. If you are interested in this service, please visit the Carondelet Shuttle web page for complete details and to sign up.

The shuttle has an annual fee of $1,400. For a De La Salle student, Carondelet requires complete payment for the school year at the time of registration, which is due by August 13th, as service begins on August 14th. Families can either pay through this online payment form or drop off a check at the front office at Carondelet.  

Please note that registration will need to be completed through the Carondelet website, and payment will need to be made separately. 

If a family wishes to cancel service they would notify Stephanie Sproul (ssproul@carondeleths.org) at Carondelet, and the cancellation would be effective at the end of the month. Any credits would be refunded back to their original form of payment or by check.

Parents are asked to contact Stephanie Sproul at Carondelet with any shuttle questions. 

De La Salle purposely does not coordinate or formulate carpools between members of our community. Parents are welcome to access their PowerSchool accounts and click on the School Bulletin area, where you will find the Student-Parent Directory. You may search via area code to find other De La Salle families who have shared their contact information if you wish to organize/coordinate your own carpools.

The De La Salle High School directory, and all of the personal information in it, is solely for personal use by families of current students of the school. It is not to be shared with other individuals, organizations, or businesses.

Concussions are a unique type of injury as they have a significant effect on a student's cognitive performance and recovery time. In order to maintain continuity in our care for students with concussions and ensure that they are returning to learn in a progression/manner that is appropriate, individualized, and conducive to recovery, De La Salle has established a concussion management policy to help facilitate this process.

Please review sections 8.9 and 8.9.1 in the Student-Parent Handbook for the full De La Salle concussion policy.

Student locker numbers and combinations:

• To access your Locker combination from your phone use a web browser and go to www.wintondrivedistrict.org/public.

• Log in to your PowerSchool account, from the left panel there is a Locker Information Tab to see your number and combination.

Locks for PE / Sports

• Gym locks are available for sale in the Spartan Store ($5).
• ONLY locks purchased at the Spartan Store may be used on gym lockers.
• Lockers are only available for athletes during their season.

There are many ways to communicate with teachers electronically, such as through PowerSchool, Schoology, and Google accounts. All students have these accounts and should use them regularly. New students will learn how to access and use them during the Online Tech Boot Camp.

Parents and students will receive information for accessing their separate PowerSchool, Schoology, and Google Suite (students only) accounts on July 3, 2024. If you did not receive an email please check your spam. You must have a valid driver's license to get a parking pass

Student Parking Permit Guidelines:

• Priority is given to seniors on campus
• Overflow parking for seniors/juniors is available at the Church of the Latter-Day Saints on Treat Blvd., allocated by our De La Salle lottery
• Sophomores are not permitted to park on campus or at the overflow site
• Student Parking Permits cost $150
• Abuse of assigned parking may result in loss of privilege and vehicles being towed at the owner’s expense

Application Process:

• De La Salle High School is now accepting parking permit applications online for Juniors and Seniors, with a valid driver’s license
• The parking permit fee is $150. Parking applications will be available on June 6 and are due by July 31st 
• Please log into your SchoolAdmin portal here to complete the application, the application is an optional item at the bottom of your enrollment checklist
• Passes are distributed on a first-come-first-served basis. Applications turned in after July 31st will only be honored if space is available and at the Dean's discretion
• Students who receive a spot can pick up their pass on Orientation Day - Bring your Driver's License to Orientation!

You must have a valid driver's license to get a parking pass

Studio One Photography is our official Senior Portrait Photographer. Appointments for your Senior Portraits have started. Studio One was on campus for Senior Portraits in June. 

If you missed this opportunity for portraits to be taken on campus, please call Studio One at (925) 361-0430 or go to www.studio1experience.com to schedule your in-studio appointment.

All portraits need to be completed by November 1 to ensure your son's picture is in the yearbook. 

De La Salle’s fundraising events allow you to support the school’s financial goals through fun, engaging experiences at our Signature Events! 

De La Salle is happy to announce De La Salle Signature Event dates for the 2024-25 academic year.

• A Taste of De La Salle (Thursday, September 12, 2024) is a fun evening of local and exclusive food, wine, and beer samplings.  
• The De La Salle Golf Classic (Monday, October 7, 2024 at Diablo CC) benefits our financial aid program which provides need-based scholarships for students who otherwise would not be able to attend our school.
• The De La Salle Crab Feed (Saturday, January 25, 2025) sells out every year and is organized with the tremendous support of the Parent Association!
• The Spring Auction (Saturday, April 12, 2025), our premier event, supports co-curricular programs and activities enjoyed by our students – from the arts to athletics, campus ministry to clubs.

* Purchase a Super Ticket to guarantee your seat at three great Signature Events: A Taste of De La Salle, the Crab Feed, and the Spring Auction. Super Tickets are $300 per person and are available online only. Super Tickets are limited to 150 tickets and will be available until sold out or through September 6.

De La Salle students in the 9th, 10th, and 11th grades will take a picture and receive an ID card at Orientation. This photo will be your yearbook photo. Seniors will have their Senior Portraits as their yearbook photo.

The De La Salle Student Support Services office provides students and parents with the availability of professional counselors. Counseling sessions are offered to students and parents to assist with any academic, social, emotional, relationship, or family matter.

Counselors can assist students and parents with clarifying problems, defining alternative choices in situations, and providing information that may affect the situation. Counselors do not make decisions for either students or parents nor are they responsible for changing class schedules or making decisions on disciplinary matters.

Counselors act as supportive advocates for students and parents and are available to help with any situation presented to them.
